NNS SENSATIONAL SPRINT MEET
North Sydney Pool: 14 November 2009
North Sydney Masters held our annual sprint carnival at the best address on earth in November last year, instead of our usual February time slot. The aim was to make use of the warm weather as the last few carnivals had been on the chilly side. It was a beautiful night and we were very lucky, keeping our fingers crossed for this year. We had 195 swimmers – which although lower than previous years, was a great turn-out given the World Masters had only just finished.
A great job was done by all the officials, many of whom came from the club. Thanks especially to Roz, Matthew, John W, Robyn, Belinda, Christina, Regina, Karen, Mary, Anne and all those club members who helped through the evening to make it a successful meet. As a note though, we do need more qualified officials, and hopefully many of our swimmers will start on their way to doing some officiating – otherwise we will not be able to run the meet at all.
There were many great swims during the evening, One world record was set at the carnival, by Jenny Whiteley (Ryde Masters) in the 50 breast. Jenny and Clary Munns (Blacktown City Masters) each set a national record in the 50 free, while our own North Sydney swimmers set two national records in the men’s 400 free relay (120+ and 200+ age groups). Blacktown City set a national record in the mixed 400 free 240+ relay.
We look forward to another successful meet and fun and camaraderie on Saturday 20th November 2010!!
Alan Godfrey
NNS Meet Director.
