Some of you may have already heard through the grapevine, but the City of Melbourne is claiming yet another one of our North Sydney members. This time it is Alan Godfrey.
We will be bidding a formal farewell to Coach Alan at the Commodore Hotel after squad Sunday the 11th of March. Alan will be coaching his last session at North Sydney Pool on Sunday the 11th of March, so what better reason then to head up to the Commodore Hotel after squad to say farewell to Alan over a drink and a bite to eat.
Alan has been a great club member since joining us in January 2008, shortly after his return from the USA, holding down many roles in the club, including Race Secretary and Meet Director in addition to his coaching duties for the past year and a bit. His shoes will be tough to fill and in fact will likely require 3 people. (See Committee nominations announcement below).
During his time with Norths, Alan has set State and National swim records; however it’s his sizzling split times in relays that highlight his contribution to the club.
2. Weekend Sessions in March:
March 3-4 CANCELLED: Due to the fact that a large contingent of our regular swimmers (more than 40!) will be heading south this weekend to our annual Mollymook Training Camp, there will be no formal weekend sessions on this weekend. (March 3&4). If you are unable to join us in Mollymook, then we hope you enjoy Mardi Gras!
March 10-11: This will be our final weekend with Alan Godfrey coaching as per the above announcement. A good time to come out to say farewell!
March 18-19: Please welcome the
GREAT JOHN WYNBERG as our new weekend coach. Sessions continue on weekends with GJW as
coach – 10:30am – 12pm on Saturdays and 11am to 12pm on Sundays for a couple more weeks until daylight savings. Attendance will be light on these days as 17 North Sydney members will be racing at State Championships at Homebush Bay that weekend.
3. Call for Committee Nominations:
A formal notice of our Annual General Meeting will be coming out shortly for April 18. In the meantime, we have already been informed of several resignations from some long-standing committee members. Therefore, we are looking for some new blood to volunteer themselves as a nominee for several positions. There are openings coming up on the Committee (starting in May) for the following positions:
- Secretary
- Training & Safety Officer
- Social Coordinator
- Race Secretary
- Meet Director
- Pool Captain(s) (Has been vacant this past year and it shows!)
Of course, nominations for any other positions will also be gladly accepted! If you are unfamiliar with the roles of your hard-working committee members and are interested in lending a helping hand, you can consult the
