Most of you have already renewed / signed up for your membership for the year at North Sydney. After January 31, if we do not have a record of you having paid your fees, you will be asked not to swim with the club until your membership is up-to-date. We must be strict on this as our insurance coverage is linked to your membership and you are not covered unless signed up. Please refer to the email sent on January 19 from Jen Langoons to see the list of current paid members. If your name is not on that list, please renew now. If you have any problems (e.g. no credit card or paid, but not the list), please contact Jen directly to sort yourself out.

Please plan to stay after our training session on Wednesday (Jan 25) to partake in some pizza (on the club) and enjoy some socialization with your fellow club members outside the pool. We’d like to take this time to also encourage you to sign up to participate in our upcoming North Sydney carnival and/or volunteer to help out on Feb 11. For those that are unfamiliar with what our carnival is all about can check out the program at:
If you are unable to join us on Wednesday, you can still enter – talk to Grant Parr on Monday Jan 23 or enter on-line by clicking on the ‘Enter’ button next to the North Sydney carnival at this link:
Cost of entry is only $20 – cheaper than any ocean swim on the circuit! Please refer to previous emails from Alan Godfrey for BSB details to pay and/or pay cash on deck to Grant Parr on Monday or Louise Laing on Wednesday.
Any other questions, just approach a fellow committee member and/or email me your questions.

Last weekend, 32 of us participated at the NSW State Relay Carnival. Despite a few no-shows, all of us got to swim 3 relays or more and we still managed to come 5th overall despite the scratches of about 5 relays. Good job to all who took part. If you haven’t already paid your $15, please make your deposit to the race account as per the details below (including those who had to cancel last minute).

For those that were new to racing, or have been away for awhile, we hope you enjoyed this small taste of pool racing. If you want to take the experience further, the winter race season is upon us. The next big target meet is the NSW Short Course Championships in Canberra on Oct 22-23. For those that go, we will assist with car-pooling needs, be organizing relays plus a glorious team dinner out on the Saturday night – swimmers of all speeds and distances are encouraged to join us!

If that sounds too serious or too far, never fear – we have many local options coming up for everyone and to help those Canberra-bound get ‘race-ready’. Local meets that we’d like to target include:

  •  North Ryde (short course) – Saturday, September 3
  •  Seaside Pirates ( long course at Sydney Olympic Pool – best pool in the country for racing) – Sunday, September 18
  •  Warringah (short course sprints) – Saturday, October 8

You can sign up for all these meets (and note the registration deadlines) and more on the North Sydney website on the calendar tab – keep checking back if the meet is not yet there – they get posted only after the registration information becomes available by the organizers. (http://www.northsydneymasters.org.au/calendar/) Don’t forget to pay the race account your appropriate registration fees when you sign up. If you have any questions about the online sign-up process, just drop me an email.

Please transfer the appropriate fees to North Sydney Race Account:

That’s right team, the short course state relay champs are back again on the 3rd of July.

For those of you who haven’t swum in these before, it’s the state wide Masters (that’s other clubs like ours) relay championships at SOPAC, Olympic Park.

Teams from all around the state get together and have tremendous fun in a serious of relays: all permutations of 4×100, 4×50 and 4×25; freestyle and medley; mixed, men and women. This is definitly one of the highlights of the year for our club and is one of our target meets for the year. I love it!

So why not skip a Sunday session for a change and come join the team at the relay carnival?! I’ve already had it on good authority that it’ll be cold, wet and windy day on the 3rd of July, making SOPAC the only option of an enjoyable swim that weekend!

Details of the event can be found on our website:

http://www.northsydneymasters.org.au/calendar/

or

http://www.ingenium.net.au/clubsite/files/2/File/Flyers/2011/Relay%20Meet%20Flyer%202011.pdf

Basically, just let me know you’re in the team and I’ll put the together the relays (each person can swim up to 4 or 5 relays) with the aid of some other members of the club. Let me know if you’ve any stroke you’d like/hate to swim in a medley relay and I’ll see to it your wish comes true. I’ll even sacrifice myself to a 100m fly leg for the team.

As an inspiration, I believe Melody’s organising a lunch after training this Sunday (June 5th.) Plus I’ll be doing some aggressive recruiting on the pool deck. See you there!

Oh. And because it’s such a good meet and nobody should be denied the chance to compete at SOPAC, the club are subsidising entries, so it’ll only cost you $15 for the whole event.

Entry cash can go to the race account, or you can just give me $15 cash on Sunday or whenever I take you name for entry.
